I'm a writer because I have stage fright.
I’ve heard a bit about hardtack from novels about sailors but I wasn’t quite sure how it was made. The food was used by seafaring men (and women) to survive long periods of time on the waters. While other foods would rot after too long on the waves, hardtack had a really long shelf-life.
While the modern day methods were somewhat different than those of 17th and 18th century sailors, I found them no less intriguing. Check out this recipe from Survival News Online.
