There are many folk lore retellings out there but what about mashups? What if there was some folk lore we are familiar with, unchanged, except for the fact that there is a character from different folk lore thrown in the mix? What would happen then? That is this week’s prompt. Are you up for the challenge?

Challenge: Folklore Fancy

  • Word count: 4,000 words or less
  • Genre: flash fiction, poem, short story, song, scene from film script or play, etc.
  • Due date: next Friday*
  • Prompt: Begin writing some folk lore you are familiar with, or becoming more familiar with, and retell it in your style. Now, add one character from a different folk lore tale. How does this character change the story?

*Link your writing to A Vase of Wildflowers on your blog and make sure to place the link to your story in the comments of this post.
